Frequently asked questions
What happens if I close the MacBook lid?
With the lid closed, macOS puts the Mac to sleep no matter what: it is a system protection SeventyAwake does not bypass. Keep the lid open, or use an external display with the power plugged in, during an awake session.
Does keeping my Mac awake drain the battery?
SeventyAwake itself uses close to nothing. But a Mac that stays awake naturally uses more power than a sleeping one: on battery, prefer a timed session, ready-made or custom, over the unlimited mode.
Can I pick an exact duration, like 1 h 37?
Yes. On top of the ready-made durations, you type the hours and minutes you want, up to 99 h 59. Your chosen duration then stays one click away, in the window and in the menu bar.
How is it different from Amphetamine or caffeinate?
SeventyAwake uses the same official macOS mechanism (power assertions, like the caffeinate command), but without a terminal or endless settings: one big button, clear durations and an optional keep-display-on mode. You click, your Mac stays awake.
App Store or direct download: which should I pick?
It is the same app. From this site: free 7-day trial, then a 4.90 CHF lifetime license sent by email, with built-in automatic updates. From the Mac App Store: paid upfront, updates handled by Apple. Pick whichever channel you prefer.
How many resources does SeventyAwake use?
Almost none: about 0% CPU, idle or while keeping your Mac awake, and a minimal memory footprint. The app simply holds a power assertion with macOS, with no needless timers.
